While I do enjoy searching for old pals via Facebook, I have to admit; their privacy sucks. Unless a user hides everything for friends only, I can find the info I am looking for. This has been an issue with Facebook users for a few years now and FB has not really addressed the issues. I call this the arrogance of Facebook. To that point, enter the Facebook phone, called “Buffy.”
Buffy the Facebook Phone
My first question is, why would I want a Facebook phone? I mean, every phone I see has Facebook integrated into it already. Twitter, Foursquare…all the social media anyone could want. I believe FB to be so arrogant thinking they can do no wrong and everything they do will be a huge hit/moneymaker.
The problem here is FB will NEVER topple Apple and in their futile attempts to market this phone, FAIL. Now, to be fair, I could be wrong….doubtful. We talk a lot in our online businesses about brand building and there is no question FB has built their brand….but is their brand working? Yes, 800 million users, but how many of them are happy with the product?
Google+ is in it’s infancy and already has more privacy then Facebook. Why? Because Google is smart. They stepped back, analyzed users wishes and fears, then created their social site. Will it be as much of a success as FB? Time will tell. My problem with Facebook again, is their arrogance. Thinking they will topple either Apple or Google is plain ludicrous. Why can’t they just be happy being a power-house like the aforementioned giants? It’s kind of like they are Hitler-esque Germany. Not happy with the power yu have, so take over the world.
I strongly believe this will be the downfall of Facebook. Not listening to users will cause a revolt Mr. Zuckerberg. Anyways, here is the data on the Buffy Facebook phone that is just plain ridiculous to launch.
According to AllThingsD:
“After years of considering how to best get into the phone business, Facebook has tapped Taiwanese cellphone maker HTC to build a smartphone that has the social network integrated at the core of its being.”
“Code-named ‘Buffy,’ after the television vampire slayer, the phone is planned to run on a modified version of Android that Facebook has tweaked heavily to deeply integrate its services, as well as to support HTML5 as a platform for applications, according to sources familiar with the project.”
I don’t know one phone today, available to the public that does not have Facebook access. What exactly are they thinking with this? I mean, is the phone going to be in the shape of a big blue F? What are your thoughts on this phone release and what do you think about the arrogance of Facebook?
