YouTube has implemented a new feature for it’s advertisers. It’s called TrueView Video Ads. Why should you care? Simple. You want brand engagement and precision advertising. If you are an advertiser, wouldn’t you like to get your ad in front of opted in video viewers? Opted in you ask. How can I get targeted opt in viewers for my ad?
Well, hold your pantaloons on, let me tell you!
TrueView Video Ads
TrueView Video Ads are a family of formats that give viewers choice and control over which advertisers’ messages they want to see and when. We charge you only when a viewer has chosen to watch your ad, not when an impression is served. Since you pay only when viewers watch your video ad, you can easily increase or decrease your budget depending on objectives.
TrueView Video Ads put your message at the forefront. For the first time, it’s your creativity that wins out. It’s not about being funny or clever—it’s about delivering the right message to the right person at the right time.
A main feature I like about this program is that you do not pay for the IMPRESSION. You only pay when your ad is actually viewed. Big difference there as some videos will get hundreds of thousands of views….which translates to huge dollars spent by you.
People advertise for a variety of different reasons, but if you are a blogger…this can be huge. Let’s say you offer consulting services to help bloggers succeed. Instead of just advertising those services on your blog, you put your services in front of the masses…via YouTube.
It’s no secret that Google PPC, AdWords, is saturated and can be extremely costly. YouTube has it’s own version of PPC and if you engage in video marketing, you can even pay for a promoted video. Not a bad idea might I add!
This new program also gives you several different ad formats to choose from. But let’s just say that a potential viewer doesn’t want to view your ad. They are still presented with your offer for 5 seconds before they opt out of it. What can you do with 5 seconds?? Better make it juicy! 🙂
Anyways, I just wanted to make you aware of the potential benefit of advertising on YouTube and their new feature. You can download a one page cheat sheet below. It gives you a quick recount of what the program is and you can determine if it’s best for you.
The Bottom Line
We all are trying to make money online and SAVE a buck in the process. I like to experiment with new features and YouTube is a great place to start. I mean, c’mon people, the reach of YT is worldwide and huge. Talk about brand engagement. A viewer WANTS to see your ad. BINGO!
Any advertisers out there already using this platform? If so, share your experiences below.

Hey Lisa,
Thanks for sharing. Haven’t looked into this for myself yet but think it might be interesting for some of my clients.

Sandy:
I think it could really be a huge benefit to those video marketers! Glad you liked it 🙂
Lisa
I have not begun video blogging or marketing yet either, but will keep this for sure for when I do.
I too will pass it around, I’ve already started drafting a post. 😉
Thanks Dennis! It really does sound like a good plan!
This looks like a great opportunity for some people. I don’t know if I’m ready to go all youtube ad yet but I’m gonna forward this one to some people who are deep into youtube just in case they’re not up on this already.
It’s good to put this out here though because I’ll keep it in my back pocket in the event I decide to go that route.
John:
Thanks for passing it along! I haven’t gotten into adverising this way yet either, but it sounds like a good thing to me!
When I get to that point, I ‘m trying this route before anything else. AdWords is just too saturated and expensive. YT continues to grow by leaps and bounds and is seems pretty cost effective.
Appreciate your feedback as always,
Lisa
